Every single device which is connected to the web has a distinctive identifier named IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes PCs, web servers, smartphones, switches, etc. The pool of IPs, that was introduced originally, is already distributed, therefore the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are steadily getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain that opens a site has an IP record, that is the address of the server where it is hosted. With the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is made up of 4 sets of numbers from 1 to 255 split up using a dot, while within the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it is made up of 8 groups of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this type of records use numbers from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. A good example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format can handle a significantly bigger amount of IPs in comparison with the IPv4 format.

AAAA Records in Shared Web Hosting

The state-of-the-art Hepsia hosting CP, included with our shared web hosting, will allow you to create a new AAAA record with ease. When you are within the account and you navigate to the DNS Records section, you will find all records that you have for any hosted domain or a subdomain under it. All it takes to set up the AAAA record is to click the New Record button, to choose the domain/subdomain in question, select AAAA and then only type or copy and paste the IPv6 address. We also have a step-by-step guide if you have never created records for your domain names, but it is less likely that you'll need it as Hepsia is much simpler to use than other Control Panels on the market. Within an hour your new record is going to be functioning and your domain name shall start resolving to the servers of the other provider. There is also an option to modify the TTL value, which outlines how long this record will be active if you edit it, from the default 3600 seconds to any value that the other provider may require.

AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to create an AAAA record for a domain you have hosted in it or a subdomain you have set up, it'll take you just a few mouse clicks within the Hepsia Control Panel to accomplish this. Even though you may have never had a hosting account before, you'll not encounter any troubles because you will use a very simple and easy-to-use interface. All DNS records for your domains are going to be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the same name, so once you go there, you will see all records which have been created automatically or manually and you'll be able to set up a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A little pop-up shall appear, so with just a few mouse clicks you can select the type of record that you need and for which Internet domain or subdomain it's going to be set up. After that, just paste the IPv6 address within a text box, save the modification and 1 hour later the new AAAA record will be 100% live. As an optional setting, you can choose how long this record shall be active after you change it or remove it in the future. That's the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the default 3600 seconds if the other company demands it.
